Kentucky

Potential Day 1 Prospects

Josh Allen, Edge, Sr.

Allen is moving to defensive end this season at Kentucky, but he’ll be able to play his old linebacker position as well if that’s what his future NFL coaching staff wants from him. I’m interested to see if the production stays the same due to the change. Either way, Allen should be in play as a back-third of the 1st round candidate.

Potential Day 2 Prospects

Benny Snell, RB, Jr.

Snell has enjoyed a record-breaking collegiate career and he will almost certainly declare for the 2019 NFL Draft. Barring something unforeseen, he’s a Day 2 back all day long because he has some receiving ability and is outstanding in pass protection on top of his obvious talent between the tackles.

Mike Edwards, FS, Sr.

There is some incredible talent that Kentucky will be graduating to the NFL draft following the season. Somehow, Edwards seems to be flying under the radar compared to some of their bigger names that are more frequently discussed. Edwards can do everything you’d ask from either safety position. He led the team in tackles last season and has now compiled two straight impressive years where he made many impactful plays on the ball (7 interceptions and 15 passes defended). I can’t imagine him getting out of the top 100 if he has another strong showing in 2018.

C.J. Conrad, TE, Sr.

Conrad has NFL athleticism and he made a wise choice coming back for 2018 after missing the last couple games of Kentucky’s 2017 campaign. Conrad averaged an impressive 17.9 yards per catch and is useful in the red-zone. He looks like a solid Day 2 prospect.

Future Prospects

Marquan McCall, DT-OG, Fr.

McCall was one of the highest rated offensive guards in this crop of recruits. Apparently, he wants to play defensive tackle and he will be granted his wish to start his career. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s just such a good athlete that he can develop into a prospect on defense or if he eventually decides to make the switch back to being an interior offensive lineman if he thinks it will help his draft stock. Of note, he’s a tad short for an interior offensive lineman at the next level. Either way, this situation won’t be played out until 2021 or 2022.
