10 Questions for Day 2

  1. Where will Mason Rudolph land?

Rudolph is considered the next best quarterback that will be available and we fully expect him to go early on Day 2. The Giants are an obvious landing spot unless they really believe Davis Webb can be a future starter. Don’t rule out Cleveland taking another quarterback and with two picks early in round 2 its always a possibility. An outside the box pick could be the Cincinnati Bengals.

  1. Who will be the surprise pick of Day 2?

There are so many good players still available who will make impacts early in their careers but without doubt someone will jump up and go much higher than most anticipate. Three names to watch out for are Tony Richardson, offensive tackle from North Carolina State, Daurice Fountain, wide receiver from Northern Iowa and Jack Cichy, linebacker from Wisconsin.

  1. Who could fall to Day 3?

There has been some concern over Rasheem Green knee and if it will be a long term problem, which could have scared some teams off and look at other defensive linemen on Day 2. Maurice Hurst has a heart condition that has now been cleared but he was not able to participate at the Combine which again could scare some teams away. Finally, someone without a medical concern is Sam Hubbard who some teams aren’t sure what his ideal fit is.

  1. Where does Shaqueem Griffin go?

Griffin is a great story of perseverance, determination and heart and how overcoming what seems like an insurmountable obstacle can be overcome when you work hard to reach your goals. Griffin is a remarkable talent who blew up the Combine after a highly productive season. Someone will take a chance on him because the value is there and they know how hard of a worker he is. Griffin will fall between picks 80-115.

  1. Who will be active on Day 2?

There should be a ton of activity again on Day 2. Some teams have exhausted their draft capital (looking at you New Orleans, Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia) and other teams have a ton of picks to still play with (looking at you Oakland, Carolina and Cleveland). Even after trading away the 3rd round pick for Martavius Bryant the Raiders have plenty of picks on Day 3. They should be willing to move around on Day 2 to get 2 or 3 players they truly covet.

  1. Who’s going 33rd?

The Browns should get another impact player on the offensive or defensive line. With plenty of options still available the Browns should take a long hard look at Harold Landry, Maurice Hurst, Will Hernandez, Connor Williams and James Daniels. Landry, Hurst and Daniels all have medical red flags but if the Browns are comfortable with them they should be the pick

  1. Whats the first pick to be traded?

With teams have the night to mull over their first day and who they missed out on or who they want to go after on Day 2, generally the top of the second round is a hot commodity. I believe the Browns will stick at 33 and take the best player but if the Giants don’t want to take Mason Rudolph they should move down a few spots as there are numerous offensive and defensive linemen that can help immediately.  The Bears and Raiders reportedly tried to get back into the first round so they should be working the phones if the player they want is still there.

  1. How many quarterbacks go on Day 2?

Mason Rudolph is the only sure thing. He will be selected in the second round. After him Kyle Lauletta of Richmond and Luke Falk of Washington State are both viable options to go on day 2. Ultimately, we might only see one of them selected leaving us with only 2 quarterbacks chosen in round 2 and 3 after five went on opening night.

  1. Who’s the next running back to go?

Derrius Guice has the highest upside but it appears some teams are not the biggest believers. Nick Chubb could go early if teams believe he is the running back we once believed he could be and Ronald Jones had a great college career but was hampered by injuries during this process. Ultimately, I believe Guice will come off the board first.

  1. Three lock selections

There is never any such thing as a lock when it comes to the draft but here are three teams and players that make too much sense.

Denver Broncos select Will Hernandez, guard, UTEP

Dallas Cowboys select Courtland Sutton, wide receiver, SMU

San Diego Chargers select Uchenna Nwosu, linebacker, USC
